It was close to the apartment we were staying in. The movie is better.
Okay, so neither the book or movie will feel any competition from the stage musical version of “The Commitments”.
However, unlike the director of “Sweet Charity”, here the director realised that, at the end of the show, if you bring back everybody on stage and do rave-up versions of the best song(s), then the audience leaves humming along and happy.
Sure, Sweet Charity only has one song, but a blasting version of “Hey, Big Spender” would have had a similar beneficial effect. Okay, Keith – let it go now.
