Lots of fun with delightful performances by Lucy Peacock and Joseph Ziegler as Mr and Mrs Hardcastle, Maev Beatty as Kate and Sarah Farb as Constance Neville. Barack Osborne was the perfect Tony Lumpkin and Tyrone Savage and Brad Hodder were charming as George Hastings and Charles Marlow respectively.
The play pokes fun at the pretensions of the upper class, bringing the lower and middle class characters in to provide the appropriate realism. This is what made the play controversial in its time, although the impact is not relevant to theatre goers today. But the play is still funny and Martha Henry kept a tight directorial hand in place to make sure it did not go over the top.
