Arcadia

My friend Gary declares this to be the best play ever. I would not go that far, but it is a very good play indeed. And when a very good director like Eda Holmes has a cast like this one, it makes for a great experience and a wonderful evening at the theatre.

Thomasina Coverly was played to perfection by Kate Besworth, a new young actor whom we expect see a lot more of in future. Chloe Coverly was also played by an excellent new talent – Harveen Sandhu.

Nicole Underhay was perfect as Lady Croom, as was Diana Donnelly as Hannah Jarvis. Patrick McManus was outstanding as the slimy Bernard Nightingale, with Ric Reid as Richard Noakes and Gray Powell as Septimus Hodge providing excellent support.

Who knows what the play is about? Who cares? Somehow even though it wanders back and forth across time it manages to make sense and keep an audience gripped. Definitely the best production at Shaw this year.

Don’t try this at home, children!
Like “When the Rain Stops Falling” this would be an easy play to screw up, but with a superb cast and direction it was a great evening of theatre.
